In our modern world, there is a huge demand for body art in general and tattoo designs in particular that reflect our ideals and personality as well as our faith and beliefs. As a result, many are looking for designs that are of great personal significance to them as individuals but want them to make a huge visual impact too.
In that respect some prefer elaborate designs that are eye catching and guaranteed to attract attention, although not necessarily for obvious reasons, and this often takes priority above the symbolism. While there is a rising demand for spiritual images such as angels and other religious deities, there is an equal demand for images at the opposing end of the scale. Many therefore are looking at contrasting designs that epitomize the very opposite of these saintly beings and this is why the demon tattoo is now widely requested by men and women.
According to ancient literature and folklore, a demon is a supernatural being that has been regularly connected with religion and occultism all over the world which is often described as a malevolent non-human creature that can be conjured and controlled. It is associated with the powers of darkness and is often portrayed as a bad spirit that can cause demonic possession in humans. Why then, would one want such a negative and fearsome images tattooed on one’s body? In one form or another, a demon tattoo has long been a popular theme in the art of tattooing from ancient times right through to our modern society. Demons have played their part in the folklore and legends of many different cultures so therefore the symbolism and intrinsic meaning behind these images does vary.
In some countries it was synonymous with divinity, while other cultures viewed it as the ultimate representation of the struggle between good and evil.
A great many of the demons featured in literature were once fallen angels, one that was banished from heaven as a punishment for disobeying God, the most famous of all being the archangel Lucifer, more commonly referred to as Satan. According to the bible, all angels have free will which allows them to choose to do good or evil, therefore the fallen angels obviously did something very wrong and became know as dark angels or demons. Aside from Satan, two of the most infamous demons were Leviathan and Beelzebub both of which are favorites among tattoo enthusiasts seeking a demon tattoo with a typical design of this nature depicting a menacing angel figure with torn wings and horns. And, while they may not make the cutest or prettiest body art designs they are certainly impressive in a totally different way.
